This Sunday we continue our series on Stewardship: how can we responsibly steward the wealth God had given us, and use it to extend God’s kingdom? This week the encounter between Jesus and the rich young ruler (Luke 18.18-30). We grapple with the truth that even the moral and upright have to renounce what they trust in, in order to turn and follow Jesus. Then, in him, we receive eternal life as a gift, not something earned. Those suffering with illness will readily give it up in order to be whole. The great danger of wealth is that few of the wealthy so readily renounce what they need to in order to likewise be whole and enter the reign of Christ. But what is impossible with man, is possible with God.
