Give Us Today Our Daily Bread 

This Sunday we consider the fourth petition in the Lord’s Prayer: ‘Give us today our daily bread’. 

God challenges both the self-sufficient heart, that considers all their success completely their own doing. And he challenges the proud religious heart, who trusts in religious observance and morality to earn God’s blessing. Instead we are to come to our great God with the heart attitude of a beggar. 

Today we meditate on three aspects of this petition: 1. the Great Giver we address; 2. the people we pray for; and 3. the needs we encompass in this petition.
