Even more shattering than the pain that breaks into our lives from time to time, is the prospect of suffering without rhyme or reason. Though a human heart might stand up under suffering in which purpose can be discerned, meaningless suffering only crushes the human soul. Today we complete our series on Romans 6-8 (entitled Secure in the Gospel). We consider Romans 8.28-39, and the comforting truth that God’s glorious purpose for his children will prevail, even in pain. This transforms our suffering bringing us new resilience, while the Father conforms us to the image of this beautiful Son (Romans 8.29).
