God’s soul language: when I want a king

There are many leaders in our lives: community leaders, political leaders at the state and federal levels, health leaders who shape our lives, leaders in the spheres of culture and sport. The Bible paints a picture of Christian citizenship in which the people of God engage with and encourage our leaders, and perhaps sometimes advocate for integrity and just government. But the first act of the Christian citizen is to pray, especially in those times when we long for leadership that better reflects God’s kingdom. Psalm 72 is God’s soul language when we long for a king, a leader, that displays God’s idea of righteousness. When we long for a leader that marries God’s justice and compassion, and so brings blessing to the people.
