Nicodemus was a man steeped in the traditions of Israel, a well known and regarded Pharisee. But is his dedication to the law of God enough to make his heart new? Jesus challenges him, and us all, with the words ‘I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born again’ (John 3.5). This is a challenge both for those who seek to make themselves new by religious observance, and those who seek to make themselves new by contemporary good causes.  In today’s message we look at the nature and the source of the new birth.
