Introducing a Season of Baptisms and Confirmations
This Sunday we open a new season of faith celebration, a season of Baptisms and Confirmations which will take us through to the visit from Bishop Paul on the last Sunday in October.
We are blessed to have a group of St Luke’s members, from a variety of ages, cultures and backgrounds, who are planning to move forward in their journey with Jesus, renewing faith and repentance.
Over coming months, you will see their Baptisms and Confirmations advertised, beginning with Mel Hosking on August 25.
In Luke 7, at the Banquet in Simon the Pharisee’s house (7.36-50) the Gospel of God’s forgiveness in Christ, changes the believer. God’s forgiveness is transformative, moving us to devote our whole lives to Christ. Just like the woman was moved to extravagant devotion, washing Jesus’ feet with her tears, drying them with her hair, anointing them. Baptism portrays and illustrates Christ’s forgiving love, like a wedding band the love within marriage. In the rites of both Baptism and Confirmation the believer also responds to Christ’s forgiving love by way of extravagant devotion.
