Proverbs 11.1-8

1. Read Proverbs 11.1-8. List all the ways righteous character is described in these verses. What similar words are used alongside righteousness/righteous?

2. Also in Proverbs 11.1-8. List all the consequences for living with a righteous character.

3. Also in Proverbs 11.1-8. List all the consequences for living without righteousness.

4. As you compare the way of righteousness and the way of unrighteousness, which is more attractive? Why?

Read: Proverbs 11.4

‘Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath,

but righteousness delivers from death.’

Question: Can you think of examples where this has been shown to be true?

Read:Proverbs 11.7

‘Hopes placed in mortals die with them;

all the promise of their power comes to nothing.’

Question: Can you think of examples where this has been shown to be true?

Read: Proverbs 11.10

‘When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices;

when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.

11 Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,

but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.’

What does this Proverb teach about the benefits of righteousness for the whole community? What examples can you see of this today?

12. How might the work of the church apply this Proverb?

For example:

through the Frankston Winter Shelter,

or our work visiting the sick

or supporting Nungalinya College

or regular Christians work doing their jobs and roles in society (eg. Christians carpenters, plumbers, teachers, nurses, doctors)
