Today we’ll explore Jesus’ parable of the shrewd manager in Luke 16.

This is a tricky parable, because at first glance, it looks like Jesus is commending something dishonest – the man ripped off his boss!

The manager sees a crisis point in his future (he’s fired from his job), and he acts to secure his future. The manager understands the time he’s in, and he takes action.

So Jesus wants us to be clever about the way we invest in the future. There are people who will join us in God’s kingdom because of the way we’ve invested in them: eg. by contributing to missionary work overseas. Or by being so generous that they can’t help but see the love of God in our lives.

We only have a limited time before Jesus returns – that’s our crisis point. Because after that it will be too late: this is our chance to generously show God’s love to a world that needs it.
