Sunday, November 10th

This Sunday we continue our series on Israel’s kings, and today we look at the episode in 1 Samuel 13 of Saul offering the sacrifice to the Lord, instead of waiting for Samuel to do it.

We can sympathise with Saul. We all recognise this situation of being pushed to the limits of our faith: sometimes it’s hard to be obedient. But because of Saul’s unfaithfulness, the kingdom will be taken away from him.

Contrast King Saul’s unfaithfulness with King Jesus’ faithfulness. Jesus submitted to the father’s plan when he went to trial, when was flogged, when he was nailed to a cross.

Because Jesus was that perfectly obedient king, he because the source of eternal salvation to everyone who trusts in him.
