Sunday, May 31

Today we celebrate Pentecost, the day when the Spirit of Jesus came to the disciple, and they began to witness and speak the word about the risen Jesus.

The Spirit does many things for Christians:

1. He’s our advocate. When the devil accuses, the Spirit reminds us of our forgiveness.

2. The spirit testifies to Jesus. We only get to know Jesus, because the Spirit is with us.

3. The Spirit makes us holy. When we walk with the Spirit we show love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

4. In John 7 Jesus declares the power of the Spirit to satisfy us.

At the festival of Booths (John 7), the Jewish people were reminded of their reliance on God during the desert travels.

1. Can you think of a time when you were especially aware of your reliance on God?

In John 7:37-39 Jesus calls the thirsty to come to him and drink. He promises us an abundance of life in the Spirit.

2. Where do you tend to go for satisfaction or meaning, other than God?
