Continuing in our series Encounters with Jesus, Mary Magdalene meets the resurrected Jesus at the empty tomb (John 20). Mary and the disciples discover that Jesus has life in himself, not just the biological life we know now, but the life of the age to come: Eternal life. This is revealed in his words ‘I am the resurrection and the life’(John 11.25) and now displayed in empty tomb and resurrection appearances.
Questions for discussion:
- Did Mary and the disciples expect Jesus to rise or not? How do we know?
- Psalm 104 paints a picture of God as being a source of life that all other creatures rely on, including humans. How does Jesus show that he is the lord of life, in his life and ministry, death and rising again?
- In Romans 12:1-2, Paul tells us to ‘be transformed’ by the renewing of our minds. Do you expect you will continue to be transformed? Do you tend to be more optimistic or pessimistic about God’s ability to change you?
