Sunday, November 3rd

Over the next 8 weeks we’re digging into the stories of 4 kings of Israel: Saul, David, Solomon and Jesus.

We begin this Sunday in 1 Samuel 8, where the elders of Israel ask Samuel to set a king over them. This is despite the fact that God is their king! But worst of all, the reason they ask is so they can be “like all the other nations”.

This is a betrayal of everything they were meant to be: a city on a hill, a light to the nations. They were meant to be different from the nations.

But surprisingly, God grants their request, because he has great plans for the kingship. He will ultimately use this institution to redeem his people in King Jesus.
